Paediatric (child) acupuncture research
‘The research done on the treatment of children to date has shown that acupuncture is safe, well-tolerated and carries a very low risk of serious adverse effects.’
Acupuncturists have known for thousands of years what acupuncture can do and modern, clinical research is gradually confirming this. Various clinical trials have found acupuncture and acupuncture-related therapies to show particular promise in the treatment of pediatric pain, cerebral palsy, bedwetting, tic disorders, poor vision, nausea and vomiting, digestive disorders, difficulties associated with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and respiratory disorders.
However, if your child suffers from a condition not listed above, acupuncture may still be able to treat it successfully. Acupuncture works by supporting the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms and can therefore help an enormous range of conditions.

Future research
Many HOPA practitioners are using a new clinical outcomes tracking system called ACU-Track. This enables them to track and record their clinical outcomes, so that in the near future we will have more evidence to support the benefits of paediatric acupuncture.
