The Hub of the Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA) Directory
The practitioners in the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA) directory are all professionally trained acupuncturists. They will have completed degree level training (of around 3,600 hours) in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation. Furthermore, every practitioner in the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA) directory will have completed further, post-graduate training in paediatric acupuncture. All the practitioners in the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA) directory have a specialist interest in paediatrics and will have gained prior clinical experience in working with children.
This directory contains three types of practitioner:
Paediatric Acupuncture Specialist: an acupuncturist who has completed extensive, post-graduate training in acupuncture paediatrics. They will be able to use both needles and non-needle techniques safely and effectively with children of all ages.
Non-needle Practitioner: an acupuncturist who has done post-graduate training in non-needle techniques for children. They will be able to safely and effectively use non-needle techniques, particularly suited to the treatment of younger children.
Teenage Acupuncture Practitioner: an acupuncturist who has done post-graduate training and has a special interest in treating older children and teenagers.
N.B. Although the exact nature of a practitioner’s training will vary depending on where in the world they are, it will have included the study of conventional medical sciences as well as traditional acupuncture. By ‘traditional acupuncture’ we mean an authentic, holistic tradition of medical practice that has been established in China over the last 2,500 years. This is the style of acupuncture recognised by many governments which have legal licensing of its practice, such as those of China, Japan, Australia and the US. Traditional acupuncture is practiced by over 1 million acupuncturists worldwide.
